Elections

The Province requires municipalities in Alberta to hold an election every 4 years to determine the seven Councillors for each Division for the next 4 year period. Occasionally, a by-election may be needed during this term if a vacancy arises due to a resignation, death, or other circumstances that prevent a current Councillor from fulfilling their duties.

County Council is responsible for the growth, direction and sustainability of Mountain View County. Council directs administration in the delivery of services for residents including traffic enforcement, roads and public works maintenance, property assessments, agriculture services, land development, fire, police and emergency services, and recreational facilities.

Urban municipalities which form part of Mountain View County include the towns of Carstairs, Didsbury, Olds, and Sundre. Also included, is the Village of Cremona. All Urban Municipalities are responsible for the election of Councillors within their respective jurisdictions.

Mountain View County's Legislative Services Department is responsible for conducting all municipal elections and by-elections, in accordance with the requirements of the Local Authorities Election Act.

Description automatically generated with low confidence

I want to help make the community a sustainable and safe place for my family and yours.

I believe in:

  • Service and participation
  • Common sense government
  • Sustainable development
  • Community safety and property rights

I attended Mount Royal College in Calgary, graduating with a diploma in Criminology in 1988. I moved on to graduate from Carlton University in Ottawa, in 1992 with a combined degree in Law and Sociology. I have previously coached AAA Bantam hockey, high school rugby and was a Big Brother in Calgary. I currently volunteer as a coach for Alberta Minor Rec Hockey and Baseball Alberta for teams in Didsbury.

In 2019, I retired from the Calgary Police Service. I worked 10 years in general patrol, 10 years in the Traffic Division and my final 4 years administrating the National Sex Offender Registry. One of my greatest accomplishments was working as a Community Liaison Officer to create the first, full-time, year-round, Mountain Bike Unit in the suburbs that was sponsored by the Business Revitalization Zone (BRZ) on International Avenue (17th Ave SE). The MB unit improved connection and communication between the Community and the Police while making an impact on local crime.

Twenty years ago, I began a new challenge when my family and I established Difficulty Ranch. We run a herd of approximately 100 commercial beef cows while focusing on environmentally regenerative agricultural practices. Dog Pound Creek runs through the entire ranch, so we have partnered with Mountain View County, Alternative Land Use Services (ALUS), Cows and Fish and the Alberta Conservation Association to enhance our environmental knowledge and improve our management practices for our animals and everyone who lives downstream. I have been appointed to the Agricultural Service Board for the past 8 years, which has given me a unique opportunity to work with producers, acreage owners and businesses in a variety of capacities. I have also collaborated with administration and council on many issues that have gone beyond agriculture. I recently completed a 3-year commitment on the Industry Advisory Committee for Agriculture Management at Olds College.

A major part of my governance and agricultural education has come from my work with the Foothills Forage and Grazing Association (FFGA). I was a director for 16 years and served as President for three years. During this time, I worked with both government and private industry advisors to improve the governance of the Association. When I stepped down as president, the Association had a positive bank balance, two full time employees, a clear business mandate, and was actively working with many industry partners including Mountain View County.

With my experience in team environments, whether as a member, leader, or mentor I enjoy a challenge and am willing to step up and be a voice for Division 4 and Mountain View County.
