Until 2013, the Province of Alberta bore the costs of all bridge improvements. However, responsibility for these expenses has since shifted to municipalities, including the maintenance of bridge structures on municipal roads. Although the Local Road Bridge Program once provided provincial funding to support municipalities, it has been discontinued. Currently, there is no direct provincial funding for bridge programs, leaving municipalities to finance these projects independently or apply for the Strategic Transportation and Infrastructure Program—a competitive grant administered by the province. To ensure sufficient funding for capital costs, Mountain View County has established a bridge and road reserve. Despite the seemingly substantial amount, current inflation estimates suggest that the reserve will be depleted within the next ten years.
